July 2024 Community of Interest Highlights
The Aging in Community Education & Research (ACER) Community of Interest provides a forum to share trends, ideas, and opportunities for research in an informal, virtual environment.
Much of the focus at the July Community of Interest was an information presentation by Nora Spinks, founder of Work-Life Harmony Enterprises, about Canada’s developing National Caregiving Strategy. Nora talked about the following:
People who age at home and in the community need support and connections. With new technology, quality of life can be improved.
The federal government is establishing an advisory group for the care economy.
One of the initiatives is the National Caregiving Strategy (for people living with disabilities, short-term and long-term care)
The strategy will be developed in 9 to 12 months.
Extensive national consultation including round tables and other events that will occur in the fall.
The federal government is working in collaboration with provincial governments where they can directly fund programs and indirectly fund agencies.
The Canadian Center for Caregiving Excellence is advocating for the caregiving strategy.
They will address the caregiver, care provider, and care receiver roles and their relationships.
Please note:
The upcoming Community of Interest (CI) gathering is set for noon from 12 to 1 pm on 15 August 2024. We extend an invitation to anyone eager to participate in this session.
