September 2024 Community of Interest Highlights

The Aging in Community Education & Research (ACER) Community of Interest serves as a platform for sharing emerging trends, exchanging knowledge, and exploring research opportunities in an informal and relaxed setting. It enables organizations, as well as individuals such as faculty, researchers, and students, to connect and collaborate effectively.

The highlights from our recent CI gathering on Thursday, September 19th, 2024, are as follows:

Doris Hanlon, Managing Director, ADM Access, gave a presentation about accessibility options, including automated options, to enable older adults to age safely in their own homes. In addition, Doris shared a variety of potential funding resources available to support these home enhancements.

There was a robust conversation about funding resources that led to a discussion about the potential of creating a resource document for older adults and their families that describes the resources that tend to stay stable over time. As many people are unaware of possible financial support, the ACER team will follow up with Doris about the possibility of developing a resource.

Please note:

The next Community of Interest (CI) gathering is scheduled for Thursday, October 17th, 2024, from 12:00 to 1:00 PM. We invite all individuals interested in participating in this important dialogue. Whether you are a researcher, practitioner, student, or committed to improving the quality of life for older adults in our communities, your insights and experiences are highly valued. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of older adults and the communities that support them.
